I am who I am because of everyone.

Reading and Writing Fiction
Reading and Writing Fiction
In this unit you will explore the art of fiction. You will consider the techniques writers use to tell successful stories and you will write a piece of fiction.
Speaking and Listening
1) The class will discuss the qualities of a good story and will collaborate as oral storytellers.
Reading
2) You will read short stories from different cultures and eras and you will write a response to at least one of them.
3) You will consider the effects of writers’ techniques
4) You will read a fiction novel of your own choice and complete a short task from the Wider Reading Assignment list.
Writing
5) You will write a story. In the process of writing you will:
explore ways of opening, structuring and ending narratives and produce a plan of your story’s structure (e.g. flow chart or mind map)
experiment with narrative perspective and create an appropriate narrator for your story
use a range of literary techniques and consider the effects of different types of word, sentence and paragraph.
produce at least two drafts and comment on the changes you make

6) You will present the final version of your story creatively, using art and/or IT skills. The story will be presented in a form, which reflects plot and structure and enhances the ideas and imagery of your writing.
